Octopus

Octopuses live in every ocean of the world. Some live at the bottom of the ocean while others live close to the water’s surface. Their eight arms can be as long as almost five meters and are covered in powerful suckers with which they pull their prey into their mouth.
Although our arms are not as long as an octopus’s arms, they do come in handy in this game.

What do you need?
Besides fellow players (a minimum of five) and a playing field, there is no other equipment needed to play this game.

How to play?
To start, one player has to be selected to be the octopus. The octopus goes to one side of the playing field and the other players line up on the opposite side. You might recognize elements of this game from other games since there are a lot of similar versions and variations to it.
Once the players are lined up on their side of the field, the game can start.
The goal of the octopus is to catch as many players as possible while crossing the field. Before the octopus starts running, he or she has to scream “ Octo, octo, 1,2,3”. Then, the octopus starts running towards the players and tries to tag them. However, the octopus is not allowed to run back and can only move forwards or from left to right.
The goal of the other players is to reach the other side of the playing field without being caught by the octopus. Whoever gets caught has to sit down in the same spot where they got tagged and is now also an octopus.
As soon as the octopus and the remaining players are back on their sides, the round starts again. The octopus should now stand on the opposite side of where it started. This means that the sides of the two teams switch each round. The tagged players that are sitting on the ground are part of the octopus team and help the octopus to catch more people. For that, they are allowed to move their arms as they wish but have to remain seated at all times.
The game ends when there is only one player left; he or she becomes the new octopus.

I hope you enjoy this game and have fun playing!
