I also know this game as a game called ‘Submarine’. It is perfect to play in school with your whole class. Very fun and entertaining. If you like guessing games and would like to practice your poker face, this is most definitely a game for you.

What do you need?
After all, you only need your thumbs to play ‘Heads Up 7 Up’. In any case, it’s worth noting that this is a game to be played inside. So you will need to set up a classroom where every player can sit on a chair with a table in front of him or her.

Who plays?
It is most fun in a big group of about 15 or more players. However, there are also variations where you only need 7 players.

How to play “Heads Up 7 Up”?
For the original version of ‘Heads Up 7 Up’, 7 you have to choose seven players to stand in front of the class. The other players sit on their seats and put their heads on the table. Thereby, they must keep their eyes closed and put one thumb up. That is also where the name ‘submarine’ comes from. The thumbs are an imitation of the submarine’s periscope that sticks out of the water. The seven players then move around the classroom and each touches one child. The children who got touched have to put their thumbs down to avoid being touched twice. After everyone of the seven players has touched someone, they line up in front of the class again. They say “Heads Up 7 Up!” and the students who were touched then get a chance to guess which of the seven touched each of them. For that, they walk up to the front and stand behind the player whom they think he or she has touched them. If you are one of the seven, you have to make sure to keep your poker face in order not to make it too easy for the players to find the one who has touched them. As soon as everyone placed themselves behind one of the seven, they reveal who is in the right spot, as well as who guessed wrong. If they get it right, they can be one of the 7 players in the front for the next round.

Variations
Here is another version of the game. In the beginning, all the players put their heads down on their desks with an extended thumb. Someone is secretly chosen as ‘it’ by the teacher or another non-participant. This person goes around touching the thumbs of six other players. These players then go to the front of the room. After that, ‘it’ yells “Seven Up!” and everybody raises their heads and tries to guess which of the seven players was ‘it’.
To decrease the difficulty of the game and make guessing easier, you can make the number of players that get touched smaller. Instead of ‘Seven Up’, you can play it just as well as ‘Three Up!’. This is also a variation in which you wouldn’t need to play with as many players.
