Children nowadays have to listen countless times to the generation of their parents or grandparents about the time when they were kids. Many stories are focused on the way children occupied themselves forty and more years ago. There were no such things as phones, unlimited television, computer games, and streaming platforms that provided you the whole day with funny videos, thrilling alternative realities, and entertaining short clips. The way children spent their time was by going outside, knocking on their friends’ doors, and playing on the streets or in the garden until the sun set. Not only were they around the fresh air the whole day, but they also ran around basically from the time that school ended until the time they had to go to sleep. With all the gaming consoles and similar things that you can do inside, sitting for hours and hours, one hardly sees children that are playing outside of the house anymore. This kind of lifestyle, which increases rapidly, is one of the aspects that favour overweight and physical problems at an early age. However, these physical problems are actually just a part of the issue because if someone, especially children, does not move enough, the consequence can be that their mental health decreases.
Getting kids acquainted with sports, especially dancing, will have a positive impact on them and also on their physical and mental development, which is so important in the early years. First off, there are a tonne of positive physical benefits. Dancing is, maybe more than any other sport, a hobby where you learn how to get good balance, posture, and overall feeling for your body. Learning these traits early in your life will help you through the whole journey of physical development that is about to come. If the children learn it at the age of five or six years old, it is much easier than learning it as a middle-aged person. Through the music that accompanies the often playful dances, children learn about the rhythm sequence and get an idea of different beats. Also, it should not be forgotten about the improved flexibility and, in general, the physical strength of the young dancers. Furthermore, there are mental benefits to dancing. Children especially have a hard time making friends and are anxious in large social groups. Because of this, joining a dance class first seems like a big and intimidating challenge, but it can actually strengthen the teamwork abilities of children and their confidence because you are really able to see your progress. Another beneficial trait is the creative outburst that children have. Especially at a young age, it is not uncommon for children to have a lot of piled-up emotions. This is why dancing can be a relieving ventile because physical exercise and exhaustion can ring mental clarity. Moreover, soft skills are also enhanced because, when dancing in a group, children will learn what it means to be tolerant, patient, and considerate. All these character traits will be helpful in their adult lives.
