Evolution is a natural development that gradually happens over time. The question of which came first, the egg or the chicken is a debate that different scientists try to solve.
In this game, the answer is simple: first the egg, then the chicken.
What do you need?
There is no additional equipment needed to play evolution but you should have a minimum of five players, though I recommend playing in a bigger group (around 10-15 players) for the most fun.
How to play?
The idea behind the game is that every player’s goal is to develop from an egg to a saint while going through different steps of evolution. To evolve from one character to another, the players play rock, paper, scissors, shoot, against each other; the winner evolves one step and the loser devolves one step.
Here are the six steps of the evolution:
- Egg
- Chicken
- Monkey
- Human
- Robot
- Saint
The important part is that each player can only play rock, paper, scissors, shoot with a player that is at the same evolution step as they are. This means that an egg can only play with another egg and a robot can only play with a robot.
To let the others know what step of the evolution you are on, there are specific movements that come with each character:
Egg
Crouch down and form a triangle with your hands right above your head as the top of the egg.
Chicken
Hold your arms at an angle next to your body and move them up and down, just like you would play chicken in a pantomime game. At the same time, make chicken sounds: “buk, buk, buk, ba-gawk”
Monkey
One arm goes above your head and the other one crosses over your body and goes to your armpit. Move your fingers and make the common monkey sound: “ou, ou, ou”. Then, switch your arms and repeat.
Human
Wave to everyone passing by and say: “hello”
Robot
Move robotically with short, controlled movements.
Saint
Move your pointer finger in a circling motion above your head to symbolize a halo.
The Saint is the last step of the evolution and once you are a saint, you have won the game and wait until the rest finishes or until the evolution of the remaining players does not work anymore because each player is at a different step of the evolution.
I hope you enjoy this game and have fun playing!
