Queen is a British rock band, formed in London in 1971, composed of singer and pianist Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and bassist John Deacon.
This is one of the most famous and known band in the world. The group gained great success with their songs (Bohemian rhapsody, killer queen, under pressure etc) the years and has had a strong influence on subsequent generations and musicians.
Characteristic of the group were their concerts, which numbered 707 in 26 countries from 1971 to 1986, which, animated by Freddie Mercury, considered the best frontman ever existed, in fact the shows were considered and compared to real theatrical shows; for this reason, the band has often been awarded the title of the best live band in history (Live Aid was one of their biggest concerts).
Like I said before Queen was formed in 1970, after Freddie Mercury whose real name was Farrokh Bulsara, singer and pianist of the group Sour Milk Sea, had joined Smile, who remained in two (Brian May and Roger Taylor) after the abandonment of the singer and bassist Tim Staffell.
Soon after joining the group, Mercury proposed changing the band’s name to Queen. In 1971, after trying out some bass players in the first performances, the band decided to permanently hire John Deacon.
In the summer of 1973 Queen released their first album, with the same title. The release of the album was anticipated by the publication of the single Keep Yourself Alive, which however never appeared in the British charts (also due to the lack of radio promotion), and was actually even defined as “obscene” by the critics of Rolling Stone magazine, despite this they didn’t give up and continued creating music.
1975 was the year of affirmation. Queen spent a lot of time in the recording studio, in six production studios, with the help of producer Roy Thomas Baker and recorded the album A Night at the Opera, the most expensive album of the time. The title is inspired by the Marx Brothers film of the same name, and is one of their most successful albums. It contains one of their most famous songs, Bohemian Rhapsody, written by Freddie Mercury and accompanied by what is defined as the first video clip in history: the song remained at the top of the English charts for nine consecutive weeks
Their biggest concert was performed on the 13th July 1985 when they took part at the live Aid, Queen performed at Wembley for about twenty minutes. According to some important English journals, the public and the other musicians present, for once in agreement, their interpretation was memorable and even one of the best of all time.
In 1991 Freddy Mercury after lot of years of sickness, got worse (he had Aids), for this motivation Queen’s last songs resent of the situation that Freddie was living. The most famous songs of this year are “The show must go on” “These are the days of our lives” and also “Istill love you” this last song was dedicated to Queen’s fans. On 24th November Freddie died.
Despite this Queen is still one of the most famous and listened group all over the world.
