Here you will find many interesting information about music!
Music is as old as time. Even before there were notes, music sheets or the great pieces of music created by famous composers like Mozart or Beethoven there was music. Music around the bonfires that burned in caves far back in the stone age, when the cavemen where dancing and singing, enjoying a good hunt. Music has always been there when a mother send her children to sleep, humming a lullaby of old times and magic woods. But what happened that now we have the chance to simply reproduce music by looking at a piece of paper with black dots on it?
The first music that was documented and written down was the singing of Gregorian monks. In the ninth century the monks started to document music in so called neumes, an early notation of dotes and signs with lines that has some similarities to the modern notation of music. With those the monks were able save chorals they sang on paper to reproduce them any other time or even decades later. This system was upgraded and changed and more and more developed to show more complex melodies and rhythms until it was the style we use today.
