Nowadays, the social media platform TikTok is among the leading apps in the app store. With its variety of contents and creative short clips, it attracts a large audience. A lot of TikTok users are well entertained by the comedy videos, lifehacks, beauty, finance, and just the general informational range that the app provides. However, the app started its original content with small dancing videos, whose creators challenged and encouraged other users to recreate the videos that only lasted a few seconds. There are, of course, thousands of accounts that are famous and popular, but here is a small selection of people who inspired many others with their contents and innovative dance moves.
NoelGoesCrazy
Behind the account “NoelGoesCrazy” is Noel Robinson. Robinson has gathered a community of over 36 million viewers and gained popularity with videos in which he presented his dance moves to people who he meets on the street. He hides his face and reveals at one point that it is him. Many people recognise him then, and the surprise is big.
Itsjustnife
Creator “Itsjustnife” entertains her followers by uploading short video sequences of her dancing, and sometimes she gets joined by stars and celebrities, for instance Vin Diesel, who plays in “Fast and Furious”, “Black Panther” actress Lupita Nyong’O, and Idris Elba, who plays in “Luther: The Fallen Sun”.
Isabell Boylston
Isabella Boylston is a professional ballerina and a principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre. Other than this, she shares her experiences and life as a professional dancer on TikTok. In short video excerpts, she shows her followers what her daily rehearsals look like, what happens on stage during the performances, or what belongs to the life of a ballerina, for example, the painful dancing in pointe shoes. An example of one of her content ideas is that she showed her fans a ranking of what her favourite and least favourite ballet steps look like.
Lizzy_dances
Lizzy Howell is active under the account @lizzy_dances on TikTok. She speaks about herself as a “plus-sized dancer” and she went viral with a video in which she performed some ballet moves. In her more recent videos, she shows some hip-hop-style routines. On her account, her goal is to get rid of false assumptions and to show that everyone can be creative and dance, no matter what people say.
Cairde
Cairde is a dance group that comes from Ireland. The dancers, who have 3.3 million followers on the social media platform, dance traditional Irish folk dance to currently viral songs and sounds on TikTok. With this unusual dance content, they are really popular amongst the TikTok community. Even the current president of the United States of America, Joe Biden, saw their performance already at a St. Patrick’s Day celebration in March 2022.
The Rybka Twins
Behind this TikTok account are the twin sisters, Teagan and Sam Rybka. On their account, they built a community of 10.9 million followers. A big part of their popularity was gained from the Australian reality show “Australia’s Got Talent.” There, they impressed the audience and judges with their dance skills, which merge acrobatics and gymnastics and include flexible movements with their whole body. They made it until the semi-finals, and with this big achievement, they managed to expand their fame. Nowadays, they are based in the city of Perth, Australia, and run successfully a TikTok account and a Youtube channel, among many other projects.
