An environment is something that surrounds us and includes both living and non-living things. For example, it includes the soil, water, animals, plants, and also humans. This environment includes the interaction of all living species, climate, weather, and natural resources that have an impact on human survival and economic activity.
For the environment to work properly, it has to be healthy. If something in the environment is unbalanced, then the changes are going to happen, and they’re going to affect everyone in that environment.
The opposite of the natural environment is a built environment. Built environments are the ones where humans have made big changes. For example, in urban settings and also for agricultural purposes.
The environment is made up of different ecosystems. There are two types of ecosystems: natural and artificial. Natural ecosystems are, for example, deserts, forests, grasslands, lakes, rivers, and so on. And all together, they form one big system called the biosphere. It’s the planet Earth. Artificial ecosystems are the ones that are created by humans and also have to be maintained by them. For example, aquariums, crop fields, gardens, zoos, and so on.
Humans are the only living species that affects and changes the environment the most. There are different activities that are associated with human activities. For example, acid rains, acidification of oceans, changes in the climate, deforestation, depletion of the ozone layer, global warming, overpopulation, and so on. To keep our environment working, it is important to protect it.
