This game easily counts as one of my favourite games to play in a big group. It strengthens the team spirit, gives you a lot of energy, and guarantees a good time.
What do you need?
There is not a lot of equipment needed to play this game. The equipment can be adapted to whatever is available to you. I would recommend using chairs, but it also works to sit on the floor or stand, and instead of using two jackets, sweaters, towels, etc., you can also play with two different balls. The number of players should be an even number for equal teams.
How to play?
If you are playing the game with chairs, the first step is to set up the chairs in a circle with every chair as closely together as possible. The same goes for playing without chairs; I recommend standing or sitting close together, although the players do not necessarily have to touch each other.
Once this is set up, it is time to divide the players into two teams. This is done by giving each player either the number one or the number two. Someone starts by saying “one”, the player next to him or her says “two” and the next player then again says “one”. It should end with everyone sitting in between players from the other team.
The last step before starting the game is to prepare the jackets, towels, or whatever objects you choose. If it is a jacket, for example, you have to tie it to make a ball out of it, or it is just generally a shape that can easily be passed on without falling apart. This goes for whatever object was chosen.
Now that the preparations are finished, it is time to get into the game.
The two objects are each given to players that sit across from each other on the opposite sides of the circle. It is important that those two players are from different teams. The players then show everyone which object is from team number one and which object is from team number two.
On the count of three, the players that are holding the objects pass the objects on to the player from their team that is sitting to their left, so the objects go around the circle in a clockwise direction. Each player has to take the object that is given to them from their teammate, who is sitting two seats to their right.
The goal of each team is to pass their object as fast as possible in order to pass the object of the other team. Once one object passes another, the team of the passing object wins.
Lastly, there are a few important rules: The first rule is that the objects have to be passed hand by hand from one player to the other, with no player of the team being skipped, which means that the object cannot be thrown. If it falls to the ground, the players have to pick it up and keep playing. The second rule is that only the players of team number one are allowed to pass on the object of their team, not the one of the opposite team; the same goes for team number two. While the objects are being passed on, it is not allowed for players to lean forward to prevent the other team from easily passing on their object and therefore slow them down.
I hope you enjoy this game and have fun playing!
