Variations of Soccer Part 1

Tennis Soccer
When you think about soccer, you probably have the typical 11 vs. 11 in your mind. But did you know there are many ways to play the game, with more players, less space or with a different underground? Let us talk about some of the fun options that can be played!
First of all, let me explain Tennis soccer. Tennis soccer is a sport where players use their feet, head, and other parts of their body (except their hands) to hit a soccer ball over a net, similar to tennis. It’s usually played on a smaller court or a tennis court, and the goal is to get the ball over the net and into the other player’s side, just like in tennis. The key difference is that you can’t use your hands, and instead of hitting the ball with a tennis racket, you kick it with your feet.
How is Tennis Soccer Played?
Tennis soccer is usually played between two teams of two players (doubles) or one player on each side (singles). The game can be played on any flat surface, but most often, it is played on a tennis court or a similar-sized area.

  1. The Court: The court is divided by a net, similar to a tennis court. However, the size of the court may vary depending on where you play. It’s generally smaller than a full soccer field but big enough to give players room to move and kick the ball.
  2. Starting the Game: Like tennis, the game starts with a serve. The player serving the ball must kick it into the opposite side of the court. The ball has to go over the net and land within the boundaries of the court. If the ball lands out of bounds, the other team gets the point.
  3. Playing the Game: Players use their feet, heads, and other parts of their body (except hands) to keep the ball in the air and send it back over the net. Players can use different kicks, such as a volley (kicking the ball in mid-air) or a header (hitting the ball with your head). The ball must stay in play, and players have to try to score by making the ball land on the opponent’s side of the court.
  4. Scoring: The scoring system in tennis soccer is very similar to tennis. The first player (or team) to score four points wins a game. Points are earned when the ball lands on the other team’s side of the court, or when they fail to return the ball properly. If the score is tied at 3-3, a tiebreaker may be played, where the next point decides the winner.
    Rules of Tennis Soccer
While tennis soccer is easy to understand, there are a few basic rules to follow:
  5. No Hands: Just like in soccer, players cannot use their hands. The ball must be hit using the feet, legs, chest, or head. Using hands or arms results in a fault, and the other team gets a point.
  6. Serve: The game begins with a serve, and players must kick the ball underhand over the net. The ball must land in the opponent’s side to be considered a valid serve.
  7. Three Touches Rule: Most versions of tennis soccer allow each team to hit the ball three times before sending it over the net. Players can pass the ball between each other using their feet or heads, but after the third touch, the ball must go over the net.
  8. Scoring: The game is played in points, games, and sets. The first player or team to win a certain number of games (usually 4) wins a set. The first to win two sets wins the match.
Where Can You Play Tennis Soccer?
Tennis soccer can be played in many different places:
  9. Tennis Courts: If you have access to a tennis court, you can play foot tennis there. Just lower the net or use an adjustable one if you want to make the game more fun.
  10. Beaches: Tennis soccer is often played on beaches, where the sand adds an extra challenge to the game. The soft ground makes it a little harder to move, but it also makes the game more fun!
  11. Backyards or Parks: You can also set up a tennis soccer game in your backyard or at a local park. All you need is a small space and a soccer ball.
Try it out and you will see, Table soccer can be a lot of fun!
