Mostly, they are creatures with long necks and a tail, as well as a wide mouth and big, dangerous teeth. So in some way, this game is not only a running game but also a game that stimulates your imagination.
“Dragon and Princess” itself is very easy, and you will for sure understand its rules quickly.
What do you need?
You don’t need any materials for this game. Just a big space like a schoolyard or a gym.
Who plays?
For “Dragon and Princess”, it is important that you play with an even number of players. At least 6 children are needed to play the game, but it also works perfectly with a big group of about 20 players. Don’t be afraid to ask your teacher to play with you if the number of players is not even.
How to play “Dragon and Princess”
To start the game, all the players pair up and spread out on the playing field. With their hands together, forming a gate of a castle.
Two players get left out. One of them is the dragon, and the other is the princess. They also should behave like that, which means the dragon can scream “Aaarrr” and spit fire. The princess, on the other hand, has to act like she is afraid of the dragon and behave like a princess would behave in that situation.
The player who is the dragon has to chase and try to catch the princess. If he or she catches the princess, the parts change and the princess becomes the dragon, and the other way around.
However, the princess also has the opportunity to escape to a castle. This means that she runs through one of the gates that the other players form with their arms. One of them stays there and makes a new gate with one of the players, and the other player becomes the new dragon. The old dragon becomes the princess.
The game can continue like that for however long you want.
Variations
It is also possible to have more couples of dragons and princesses. Two or more couples who chase each other make the game more interesting and exciting for more or older players. If you have a bigger group, I would recommend having at least two princesses and dragons, since then you don’t have players just standing around as gates and doing nothing. For a smaller group, it will make the game faster. You would have to pay a lot of attention, and it will never get boring, that is for sure.
